In the letter received along with the certificate, Executive Editor of Environmental Science: Processes & Impacts, Kathryn Gempf pointed out three reasons why Fangzhou was selected for the award:

• Number of reviews completed (within 12-month period)
• Timeliness of his feedback
• Quality of his reports
