Aerodyne at EcoDemonstrator 2023

Aerodyne was a key participant in the recent EcoDemonstrator emissions experiments led by Boeing, NASA, and DLR (the German Aerospace Center) in October 2023. The campaign was designed to understand how the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs), which are derived from biofeedstocks and not fossil sources, can affect the emissions from aircraft engines beyond the reductions in COthat arise due to the biological sources for the SAF fuel. Aerodyne contributed measurements to characterize the particle emissions from the subject engines to help understand how global impacts can be reduced by using SAF. Aerodyne also provided a new, sensitive water vapor instrument to better understand how the emitted particles might affect contrails and clouds due to aircraft operations, which is the suspected biggest impact of airplanes on the global atmosphere.
